Meet Joann

Entrepreneur,  Certified Professional Life Coach & Strategist, People Developer & Passionate Influencer, Devoted Wife and Mom of Two Amazing Kids, and above all, I am a child of God.

Joann Nelson (affectionately known as Jojo, and to my clients, Coach J) is a Personal & Professional Development & Growth Life Coach. She loves to immerse herself in a good Self-Love, Healing and Personal Development conversation. Her purpose is to use her platform and provide women a safe space to share their stories and elevate each other.  Our community fosters a deep sense of belonging and honors women's voices and stories. All of this comes together to create engaged members with diverse backgrounds and inclusive views who are committed to transform their mindset, be purpose-driven and evolve to be the best and greatest version of themselves.

She is the Founder and Owner of Beyond Coaching, LLC. located in the D.C. Metropolitan area. Hence, where the slogan affirms that transformation begins when you “Own your power, live in your truth”. Joann has changed lives all across the United States from the West Coast to the East Coast, Canada and London.

She is a humble servant leader, a devoted wife of 14 years, and mother of two amazing children. Joann obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s in Business Administration. Her professional background consists of 15+ years in Human Resources. Working closely with Senior Executives, Managers and Staff members in various industries she found fulfillment in coaching, training and developing women in leadership roles.

“I started living when I decided to let the past make me better and not bitter. I gained clarity when I redefined success with inner peace, joy, and wholeness. My pain became a lesson once I chose to do the internal work. All things work together for the good once you believe and are in total agreement and alignment with the divine.”

During her career, she realized that transformational leadership requires humility, mental and emotional fortitude (when considering friendships, romantic relationships, and even in networking professionally). As she worked closely and coached women in leadership positions, oftentimes demonstrating an impeccably well-polished profile and existence in their professional career, they lacked organization, support, and guidance on how signs of toxic traits show up in their personal relationships. Joann immediately saw a need for better self-worth, self-care and self-love.

Building relationships with others and connecting with people require a heightened level of empathy and compassion. Joann realized that her greatest strength and passion is to encourage, empower and inspire women in leadership to reach their greatest potential in their personal and professional lives.

Empowering women to recognize the brokenness of toxic patterns in their relationships, both personally and professionally. Joann is a catalyst and has a unique way of connecting with people and building relationships who are seeking to make peace with their past, maximizing their present, and help them to continue to evolve by deepening their faith in God. Joann had a desire to start Beyond Coaching because she has seen too many women suffer in silence lose their identity and self worth due to unresolved past issues and toxic relationships.

Being that voice of reasoning, a listening ear and a supportive coach in times of confusion, hurt, pain and loneliness is needed especially in these unprecedented times. Our most devastating and shameful moments can be the one that changes the trajectory of our lives. Joann knows how this feels, because she has experienced failed relationships and understands the mental fortitude it takes to redefine your identity, and seek inner peace.

In January 2020, she launched an online workshop and course that specifically helps  women to redefine their identity with 4 simple systems. She is a firm believer that all of the money, accolades, and credentials which our society considers as “successful” can not provide you with inner peace. You can have it all and still lose your self worth and identity through the process. In the online courses and workshops, she shares her scars and wounds and the many life lessons learned, and how the process of healing prepared her on a path to wholeness both personally and professionally.

It is about being able to fully experience joy and inner peace, which she considers as the new success. Her past experiences sent her on a journey of deep reflection, self-love, and healing.  Joann is here to empower women to be the best, greatest version of themselves, be transformational leaders by bridging the gap between their personal and professional life. As a certified professional Life Coach, she specializes in Personal and

Professional Development.

She understands the mental fortitude it takes to redefine your identity, seek inner peace and wholeness. While not working, Joann enjoys family and friends, nature walks, cooking, reading, and spending quality time with her husband and two adorable children. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Joann now resides with her family in the DMV Metropolitan area.

Overall, Joann’s passion is to promote a message of self-empowerment, self-worth and image. She is a firm believer that in order for an individual to be transformed, live their best life and experience true success; the work must first begin from the inside and out. Today, she feels compelled to use her voice and mission to inspire women that all your tears will turn into smiles and your hurt and pain into triumphs and purpose.

“There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
